Affiliate Players
Please read the link below on Baseball Alberta’s guidelines to adding affiliate players, prior to contacting BMB to add to the roster.
BMB Affiliation process:
After identifying your appropriate affiliates and contacting their coach and parents for approval, please contact BMB at blackfaldsminorballregistrar@gmail.com to add those affiliates to your initial roster for BA approval. Once this has been done and they are approved, you can utilize your affiliates throughout with no further approvals from BA required. Affiliates can be added to your roster up until the roster lock deadline (___________) after this date, it may take 2-3 days to approve affiliates throughout the season.
Process to use Affiliate for a game after they are added to the roster:
Fundraising
AGLC License
Following approval from BMB, teams may run fundraisers that require an AGLC license. This license will not be under Blackfalds Minor Ball, but rather the team itself. The team will be responsible for acquiring the necessary raffle license(s) and submitting all reports on time.
*Liquor may be included in raffles, but liquor cannot be sold for consumption at any youth sporting event.
Should you have any questions about Fundraising or wish to confirm if a fundraising avenue is an option, please contact BMB at fundraising.bmb@gmail.com .
BMB Raffle
Players will be asked to sell BMB raffle tickets and will be distributed to manager/treasurers at the beginning of the season. Should a player wish to forgo selling raffle tickets, they will be required to pay an additional program fee at the time of registration.
**Please remind your team that these tickets can only be sold in Alberta to Alberta residents**
If you are coaching an AA team your schedule will be emailed to you the second to third week in April. Your schedule will only be a couple playing weekends in advance as you are tiered after each round. Should you need to reschedule games they need to be played prior to the completion of that round. Please review your schedule as soon as you receive it, if you identify conflicts due to tourneys you’ve entered, diamond unavailability etc...Notify BA and BMB diamond and ump coordinator ASAP to confirm diamond availability for alternate dates. You must then contact the opposing team; once an alternate date has been determined you will need to schedule umpires. Umpires for all Baseball Alberta League games in 15U AA will be assigned through the Provincial Umpire Committee. Umpires for all Baseball Alberta League games in all Community Leagues, all 'A' age categories, 11U AA and 13U AA will be booked by the team through the BMB Diamond and Ump coordinator. This does not include Exhibition Games. Umpire payment is covered by the teams playing and umpire travel costs are covered by the host team only. This policy is stated in the Baseball Alberta Handbook. Please ensure you are following this policy. Do not “share” umpire travel costs with teams if you are not the host. It is the responsibility of the host team.
Team Manager
The role of an AA Team Manager is simply to organize your team’s season. As this is a significant job, delegating some of the responsibilities to other parents on the team will benefit you greatly. A manager is required to set a positive example to the players and parents by helping to assist BMB in enforcing the codes of conduct, remembering that wherever your team is, their behavior towards other teams, parents, officials etc... is a direct reflection on BMB.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
Ensure your team receives the schedule as soon as it’s made available, and inform the team of any changes as they happen.
Keep in your possession at all team events, your BA approved roster, player medical forms as well as a first aid kit (this is a team expense).
Learning Spordle Play, This is the platform that Baseball Alberta uses for their managers to input game scores, here is a link for information regarding Spordle Play https://spordle.baseballalberta.com/getting-started/managers-coaches
When hosting a weekend in Blackfalds
Game Paperwork
All of the forms referred to can be found on the Baseball Alberta website under “Resources” and “Documents “as well as under Baseball Manager on the BMB website but they are also linked here as well.
You must complete a weekly pitch report for your team each week. If you are traveling to another location for your games you must provide to their scorekeeper / pitch counter your weekly pitch report. They will complete it with the pitchers you use while you are there and you are responsible to go collect it after your games as your weekly pitch report stays with your team. When you host in Blackfalds the visiting teams are required to do the same thing. They provide you with their weekly pitch report and you add the players that pitched while in Blackfalds that game/weekend and return it to them prior to their leaving.
This is completed to track the pitches thrown in each game. You must have separate forms for each team, each game. The Pitch count log book will help to complete the Game Summary Report. The “ranges'' and “days of rest” boxes on the form are simply the number of pitches that each division is permitted to throw and the corresponding days of rest required. These can be found in the Baseball Alberta handbook.
The pitch count logbook can be completed a number of ways. Some people choose to cross out the numbers with a slash, while others choose to go over the number with the pitch… for instance B for ball, S for strike, H for hit etc… Either way is accepted. The important part is to put a dash “ - “ or something to mark between the numbers when one batter ends and a new batter starts and to circle or highlight the number at the end of each inning. On the game summary report, you are required to record the number of pitches thrown each inning, having the pitch count logbook completed accurately will assist with this.
If the first pitch was a ball, then a strike, then a hit. You would either “ / “ through the numbers 1-3, or write over top a B on #1, a S on #2 and an H on #3 then put a dash “ - “ between #3 and #4 to mark the end of the batter. You can also switch the direction of the slash for each batter instead of letters and a dash, as long as they are differentiated between. If the second batter hit a caught fly ball it would be a backslash or if you are choosing letters then an H on #4, and a dash between #4 and #5… say the next batter did the same, you’d put forward slash or an H on #5 and then circle the #5 to mark the end of the inning as that’s your 3 outs… Then share with the scorekeeper, who’s completing the game summary, that the pitcher threw 5 pitches in the first inning.
The game summary report is the most important form. Once completed it requires signatures from both head coaches, the home plate umpire as well as the official scorekeeper and must then be scanned and emailed to Baseball Alberta. The email is at the top of the form. The form is fairly self-explanatory and must be filled out at the end of each inning so it’s accurate and ready for signatures immediately following game end. The pitches per inning will be based on the pitch count logbook, this is why it’s essential to mark the end of each inning on the pitch count logbook to assist in completing the game summary report.
